Drawing of a penis

by Maria
(Stockton, CA)

Question: My son was coloring a monkey, then he decided to draw a dot on the picture I asked him what was it, and he told me it was a wee wee or penis. What does this mean? I'm concerned. Please let me know what you think thanks.

Answer: Some kids are simply drawing pictures without realizing that drawing that body part is not entirely appropriate. They don't see those body parts as being bad, but simply as just being a body part. Like your eyes or nose.

I wouldn't worry too much, but talk to him about how why we don't usually draw those body parts because they are considered private. It may give you a good opportunity to talk to him about private parts and what is and isn't appropriate when it comes to private parts, such as touching others etc.
